AT THE ASSOCIATION MEETING ON AUGUST 18, 2018, A NEW WEED WAS REPORTED FOUND IN SHALLOW WATER NEAR THE NORTH END OF THE LAKE. PHOTOS WERE TAKEN AND SENT TO OUR WEED CONTROL BIOLOGIST. HE IDENTIFIED IT AS "WILD CELERY", WHICH IS CONSIDERED A NATIVE SPECIES, AND SAID IT WILL DIE OFF ON ITS OWN. SEE PHOTOS BELOW.
NEW INVASIVE SPECIES FOUND 2016
As residents were getting docks and swim rafts out of the water for the winter, a new challenge was found. Zebra mussels have been brought in, probably on boats at the public landing. Some were found at the north end, some at the outlet and in the south cove. Next year, make sure you lift your boat motors out of the water when docked to prevent water intakes from becoming plugged. On outboards, always make sure cooling water is flowing because zebra mussel larvae may get into the system and if they grow in there, it can become plugged.
IF YOU HAVE WONDERED WHERE OUR DNR BOAT LAUNCH DOCK IS, HERE IS INFORMATION RECEIVED FROM THE NEWAYGO STATE PARK, WHO TAKES CARE OF OUR DOCK. IT WAS REMOVED FROM THE SITE LAST FALL FOR MAINTENANCE. THE STRUCTURE HAS BEEN SAND BLASTED AND RE-COATED. THE DECK BOARDS ARE BEING RE-COATED CURRENTLY AND THEY PLAN TO HAVE THE DOCK BACK IN THE WATER BY THE END OF WEEK OF 4/26/21 OR EARLY DURING THE WEEK OF 5/3/21.
